Day 1: Arrive in Bayan Ulgii and Depart for Tsengel village- Khtoton and Khurgen lakes
Tsengel village is home to Khoton and Khurgen lakes. It is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and one of the largest forested areas in Mongolia. With beautiful rivers and green valleys it is a must see location and most people's favorite place to travel in Mongolia. We will stay overnight in our tents.
Day 2: Trekking and Horseback Riding
In the morning our cook will prepare breakfast and we will ride horses to the “Twin” Khoton and Khurgen lakes. Common fish in these lakes also, known as the “Twin” Lakes are: Taimen, Lenok, Greylings, and Trout. We will stay overnight in our tents, but will have the option to stay with Kazakh families, if you choose to do so.
Day 3: Ikh Turgen Waterfall & Eagle Hunter family homestay
Trek to Ikh Turgen Waterfall and through the Valleys to the Natural Springs, after breakfast and on this day we will stay with a Kazakh Eagle Hunter’s family; see golden eagles, hold the eagles, try on traditional clothes, and take photos. You can also taste traditional Kazakh foods like Beshbarmack (Five finger food), Kurt (Dried cheese), and Sary mai (Yak butter). You will stay the night in the family’s ger and be able experience the nomadic lifestyle, sing songs listen to traditional Kazakh instruments like the Dombra. Sleeping in tents is also an option.
Day 4: Return to Ulgii
On the Fourth day we will return to Ulgii and we will visit the local museum which houses tons of great artifacts and information about the history of Bayan Ulgii. We will then have lunch at the local Pizza place or can prepare our meal atop Friendship Mountain just 5 km outside of the city center. In the evening, there will be a farewell party at Shery Travel Ger Camp accompanied with traditional Kazakh music.
Day 5: Depart from Bayan Ulgii to Ulaanbaatar
Marking the final day of the trip, your guide will accompany you to the airport where you will be depart to Ulaanbaatar.

Bayan Ulgii (average elevation of 1301-4374 m) is surrounded by the snowcapped Altai mountains with a total area 45, 704.89 km². Ulgii is bordered by Russia’s Altai Republic and China. It is known for being home to the largest Kazakh population in Mongolia and its location within the Altai mountains, vast open rivers, lakes, natural springs, diverse wildlife, and unique plant-life. Bayan Ulgii is famed for having about 2,300,000 animals while it only has 32,000 people including the last remaining nomadic Eagle Hunters.

Suggested Packing List:
Passports – When traveling abroad it is always a good idea to keep passport copies with you. If you are booking a trip to the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park we will need a copy to purchase your permits to get into the national park.
Sleeping bag – Although, yurts can be very warm, their temperatures drop a little during the night and it is best to have an all-season sleeping bag that is rated at -5ºCelcius/ 15º F or below even in the summertime.
Waterproof hiking boots – Hiking, trekking, climbing, and walking through the terrain in Mongolia can be tough for anyone so you have to take care of your feet.
Waterproof clothing – A weatherproof jacket is a necessity with the unpredictable weather here in Western Mongolia. The Kazakh’s and Mongolian’s have a saying that there are 4 typically seasons in one day.
Towel, soap, and basic personal toiletries – A towel, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, and wet wipes for the rest of the trek is also recommended. All of which can be purchased in Ulgii.
Water bottle – Your safety is our number 1 concern. Please bring a water bottle. Along the trail there are lots of rivers and streams from the glaciers and mountains that can be used to refill your bottle and boiled later to drink.
Warm clothes – Fleece, long pants, woolen hat, gloves,
Walking clothes – Bring thin clothes that can be layered and be easily removed or added during the trip.
Personal medication and basic first aid kit – Benadryl, Nyquil, rehydration salts, water purifying tablets, and other medications that cannot be purchased in Ulgii.
Snacks – Foods that are high in calories such as: energy bars, . Snacks are provided during the trek but you may like to bring one or two extras just in case.
Solar powered light –It will be dark while away from Ulgii so it is a good idea to keep an external light with you and be able to charge your devices while away from camp.
Money belt- This is good to have in Ulaanbaatar as UB is a large city and it is better to be safe than sorry when far from home.
Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat- It isn’t called the “Land of Eternal Blue Sky” for no reason. With few trees you could spend several hours exposed to the sun in a single day.
Bug spray/Insect repellent- Don’t let bug bites ruin the trip of a lifetime!
Ziplock bags- Can be extremely useful to keep things dry with unpredictable weather.
Helmet- If you would feel safer on horseback or camel, you are encouraged to bring a helmet.
Camera- These are once in a lifetime trips and taking photos is a must
Domestic Flight information
Domestic flights have limit of 15kgs maximum including luggage and hand luggage. Any extra luggage can be brought with you. However, the airlines will charge you approximately 2 USD for each extra kg. We are able to book your domestic flights for you upon request.
